Ibu saya adalah seorang yang sangat baik, sejak kecil, saya melihatnya dengan begitu gigih menjaga keutuhan keluarga. Ia selalu bangun dini hari, memasak bubur yang panas untuk ayah, karena lambung ayah tidak baik, pagi hari hanya bisa makan bubur. Setelah itu, masih harus memasak sepanci nasi untuk anak-anak, karena anak-anak sedang dalam masa pertumbuhan, perlu makan nasi. Dengan begitu baru tidak akan lapar seharian di sekolah. Setiap sore, ibu selalu membungkukkan badan menyikat panci, setiap panci di rumah kami bisa dijadikan cermin, tidak ada noda sedikikt pun. Menjelang malam, dengan giat ibu membersihkan lantai, mengepel seinci demi seinci, lantai di rumah tampak lebih bersih dibandingkan sisi tempat tidur orang lain, tiada debu sedikit pun meski berjalan dengan kaki telanjang. Ibu saya adalah seorang wanita yang sangat rajin. Namun, di mata ayahku, ia (ibu) bukan pasangan yang baik. Dalam proses pertumbuhan saya, tidak hanya sekali saja ayah selalu menyatakan kesepiannya dalam perkawinan, tidak memahaminya. Ayah saya adalah seorang laki-laki yang bertanggung-jawab. Ia tidak merokok, tidak minum-minuman keras, serius dalam pekerjaan, setiap hari berangkat kerja tepat waktu, bahkan saat libur juga masih mengatur jadual sekolah anak-anak, mengatur waktu istrirahat anak-anak, ia adalah seorang ayah yang penuh tanggung jawab, mendorong anak-anak untuk berprestasi dalam pelajaran. Ia suka main catur, membuat kaligrafi, suka larut dalam dunia buku-buku kuno. Ayah saya adalah seorang laki-laki yang baik, di mata anak-anak, ia maha besar seperti langit, menjaga kami, melindungi kami dan mendidik kami. Hanya saja di mata ibuku, ia juga bukan seorang pasangan yang baik. Dalam proses pertumbuhan saya, kerap kali saya melihat ibu menangis terisak secara diam diam di sudut halaman. Ayah menyatakannya dengan kata-kata, sedangkan ibu dengan aksi, menyatakan kepedihan yang dijalani dalam perkawinan. Setelah dewasa, saya akhirnya memasuki usia perkawinan, dan secara perlahan-lahan saya pun mengetahui akan jawaban ini. Rumah kotor sedikit tidak apa-apalah, nanti saya carikan pembantu untukmu, dengan begitu kau bisa menemaniku!" ujar suamiku. "Saya kira kamu perlu rumah yang bersih, ada yang memasak untukmu, ada yang mencuci pakaianmu.... dan saya mengatakan sekaligus serentetan hal-hal yang dibutuhkannya. " "Semua itu tidak penting!", ujar suamiku. Yang paling kuharapkan adalah kau bisa lebih sering menemaniku. Ternyata sia-sia semua pekerjaan yang saya lakukan, hasilnya benar-benar membuat saya terkejut. Kami meneruskan menikmati kebutuhan masing-masing, dan baru saya sadari ternyata dia juga telah banyak melakukan pekerjaan yang sia-sia, kami memiliki cara masing-masing bagaimana saling mencintai, namun, bukannya cara pihak kedua.

Jalan kebahagiaan Sejak itu, saya menderetkan sebuah daftar kebutuhan suami, dan meletakkanya di atas meja buku, Begitu juga dengan suamiku, dia juga menderetkan sebuah daftar kebutuhanku. Kalau saya memberinya usul, dia bilang akan merasa dirinya akan tampak seperti orang bodoh. Menurutku, ini benar-benar masalah gengsi laki-laki. Saya juga meniru suami tidak memberikan usul, kecuali dia bertanya pada saya. Kalau tidak saya hanya boleh mendengarkan dengan serius, menurut sampai tuntas. Demikian juga ketika salah jalan. Bagi saya ini benar-benar sebuah jalan yang sulit dipelajari, namun, jauh lebih santai daripada mengepel, dan dalam kepuasan kebutuhan kami ini, perkawinan yang kami jalani juga kian hari semakin penuh daya hidup. Soeharto is Dead

Authorities at the Astana Giri Bangun cemetery are stepping up their preparation Sunday for the burial of former president Soeharto, who died at 86.

Metro TV station reported in a rainy and strong windy weather at the cemetery that Soeharto's body will be flown from Jakarta to his home in Kalitan, Surakarta on Monday morning.

Later on Monday, his body will be brought to the Astana Giri Bangun cemetery for burial.
Soeharto's wife, Tien Soeharto, who died in 1996, was also buried in the cemetery.

Soeharto's Kalitan residence is reportedy able to accommodate up to 5,000 people, while the Astana Giri Bangun cemetery 2,000 people. (Jakarta Post)

What are you doing to find your next job? Are you blindly chasing interviews, or are you focused on finding the one job that's r

ight for you?
If you're not sure whether you are looking for the right job, you need help defining the job you want. Often, a good place to start is with the job you have. Write out your responses to the following exercises. The results will help you keep an eye on what you really want.

1. What

Describe the job you would want to be promoted to at your current (or last) company. Be honest with yourself, and be realistic. But let yourself dream about what you really want to do next. List the title, salary, responsibilities, and level of authority. What are the three most important goals you would have to achieve in that job, to be successful? What are the daily tasks you would be expected to perform?

2. How

How would you do this job if you had it? List the things you would need to do to achieve each of the three goals you described above. How would you perform the day-to-day tasks better than they are being performed now?

3. Why

Why should you be assigned this job? What profit would you add to your company's bottom line if you accomplished your goals? Make your best estimate. If you need to do some thinking and research to figure this out, do it. The profitability question is at the heart of every hiring decision.
If you're not satisfied with what you came up with, select another job and do the exercise again. Keep practicing until you feel good about the work at and the job you want to do.

4. Reality Check

Review your plan with someone you respect and trust at the company, or with someone who understands your business. You may even be able to review it with your boss, explaining that these are your professional goals over the next year. Ask for suggestions to improve your plan. Listen carefully to all comments. (If you think this exercise might land you a promotion at your current company, you're right. The same planning that will net you a new job elsewhere should work with your employer too.)

Now, use what you've learned here to define the job you want to find. Do not interview for jobs that fail to meet or exceed these requirements. Why waste your time settling for anything less?
Once you have identified the right job, you cannot be as powerful a candidate for any other job. In fact, you will fall on your face in such interviews. Don't go after interviews -- go after the right job.

How to avoid a "bait and switch" job offer.

There's a new reason people are changing jobs: they get hired to do one thing, but are assigned to do something else. Nothing takes the bloom off the rose like finding out you're expected to make the coffee (it happened to a new manager) or that the design engineering job is really customer support. These are extreme situations, but many people find themselves performing tasks unrelated to their job descriptions. While we all know that job descriptions change and evolve, it's something else when you never get to do the job you were hired for.

Protect yourself before you accept a job. Ask to have your main responsibilities and tasks put in writing, along with the assurance that at least 75% of your time will be devoted to those tasks. You should also "vet" the job during the interview process. People rarely do this, yet it's critical to your success and happiness on the job.
Ask for a brief written description of the work you'd be doing day one, week one, month one and through the year. Few employers will spell this out, but their reaction when you ask will reveal a lot about their integrity.
Request wording in your job offer that says if the company needs to reassign you, this must be negotiated. If the reassignment is a step down or outside the work you were hired to do, you want the option to leave with a defined severance package.

Ask to see your work area and the tools you'll be using. This is a good indication of whether the job is what you were told.
You must ask, dig, poke and demand the information. You must "triangulate" and talk with others in the company to figure out for yourself what the work really is. If you get the runaround, reconsider accepting the offer.
Make no mistake: good jobs evolve and you should expect the nature of your work to change, too. Even in companies with high integrity, changes in the economy can mean shifts in job responsibilities. You need to be flexible. But that doesn't mean an employer has a right to unilaterally determine that you'll be doing work different from what you agreed to do when you were hired.

Polls show Obama gaining momentum in New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (AFP) - Barack Obama built a double-digit opinion poll lead ahead of Tuesday's New Hampshire primary, threatening another ominous blow to Hillary Clinton's White House hopes.

The former first lady's once iron-clad lead in the northeastern state appeared to evaporate as voters flocked to the 46-year-old senator from Illinois, riding the wave of his stunning Iowa caucuses victory last week.
Republican White House hopefuls meanwhile squabbled in another contentious debate, though the party's New Hampshire front-runner Senator John McCain, appeared to escape any damage before Tuesday's poll.

Forced to go onto the attack, Clinon warned Obama's soaring eloquence, masked a lack of achievement, and told Democrats they should "nominate and elect a doer, not a talker."
But in dueling rallies across the northeastern state, Obama pressed home his mantra of hope and change, and accused Clinton, 60, of stooping to desperate tactics.
"What we're seeing is the last throes of Washington resisting change ... twisting facts, distorting people's records, twisting words," said Obama, who hopes to become America's first black president.
A USA Today/Gallup poll gave Obama a 13-point lead over the senator from New York, while a CNN/WMUR tracking poll showed Obama leading Clinton by ten points.
The previous edition of both polls had the two rivals tied.

For the first time, also, more New Hampshire voters saw Obama as the Democrat most able to beat a Republican rival in the race for the White House, according to the CNN/WMUR poll, which gave Obama a a 42 to 31 percent edge over Clinton on "electability."
"The Iowa caucus results have convinced growing numbers of Granite State voters that Obama can really go all the way," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said.
Clinton fought a pitched battle to keep Obama from snatching the primary, after he trounced her in Iowa last week. "There is a big difference between talking and acting, between promising and delivering," Senator Clinton, who would make history by becoming the first woman president, told a rally of canvassers.
She also took a swipe at Russian President Vladimir Putin, riffing off President George W. Bush's famous comment that he had got a sense of the Russian leader's "soul" in their first meeting.

"This is the president that looked into the soul of Putin, I could have told him, he was a KGB agent, by definition he doesn't have a soul, I mean this is a waste of time, right, this is nonsense," Clinton said at a campaign rally.
Two days before the New Hampshire primaries, bad feelings simmered in the latest debate between Republicans, as Mike Huckabee, who won the Iowa caucuses, clashed with Mitt Romney, the man he vanquished.
"You know, Mike, you make up facts, faster than you talk and that's saying something," the former Massachussets governor quipped as Huckabee rejected an attack on taxes hikes when he was Arkansas governor.
Romney launched a withering assault on the credentials of McCain, a Vietnam War hero, who is leading in state polls, saying he's been in Washington for so long he's got "lobbyists at each elbow."
McCain, who has also taken a drubbing in Romney's ad blitz, appeared to remain above the fray, striking a more conciliary tone and extolling his past military record.

The USA Today/Gallup poll of 778 New Hampshire Democrats, conducted Friday to Sunday, showed Obama with 41 percent support and Clinton with 28, with Obama's lead well protected from the poll's four percent margin of error.
A new CNN/WMUR New Hampshire Primary Tracking Poll meanwhile, showed Obama leading Clinton 39 to 29 percent. The poll of 268 Democrats, taken Saturday and Sunday, had a five percent margin of error.
The new USA Today/GALLUP poll showed McCain in the lead over Romney, 34 to 30 percent. The mid-December previous poll had Romney ahead of McCain, 34 to 27 percent.
The CNN/WMUR poll showed McCain holding on to a six point-lead over Romney, 32 to 26 percent.

Joint Japan and World Bank Graduate Scholarships Program for Public Policy and Taxation

Eligibility

Applicants should:
1. be between the age of 25 and 45;
2. be nationals of a World Bank borrowing member country;
3. be mid-career professionals in public service;
4. be of good character, a team player and active in extracurricular activities;
5. hold, at minimum, a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in a development-related field; and
6. have at least four years of recent full-time professional experience in a field related to economic development or public policy, in the applicant's home country or in another developing country

The following applicants are NOT eligible:
1. those currently pursuing a Master’s or PH.D. program in industrialized countries;
2. those who have had one or more years of training/studies and/or residency in an industrialized country;
3. permanent residents/nationals of industrialized countries;
4. Executive Directors, their Alternates, and staff of the World Bank Group (the World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC), Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) and International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) including consultants, as well as their close relatives.)

Priority consideration will be given to applicants who:
1. are 35 years old or younger,
2. are currently holding an official position in the field of tax administration,
3. can receive an official leave of absence during the period of study,
4. are planning to return to the equivalent position (including the current one) in their home country after s/he completes the program,
5. are recommended by appropriate government agencies, and

Application Requirements
The following are the documents to be submitted in addition to the application form:
1. English proficiency: Each applicant must demonstrate a proficiency in English sufficient for undertaking instruction in that language. In this regard, a minimum TOEFL score of 550 for the paper-based, 213 for the computer based, 79 for the internet based or IELTS score of 6.5 is required for entrance into the program. The only documents we accept are official TOEFL scores sent directly by Educational Testing System (ETS) or official IELTS sores sent directly by British Council. Please refer to the TOEFL webpage or the IELTS webpage where you can obtain information regarding the examination. The institution code for Yokohama National University for TOEFL is 0410. Choose 84 (economics) as the department code. The only exception is the case in which the primary language of instruction at the applicant’s undergraduate institution is English. In this case, you must include an official letter obtained from the university confirming this information. In any event, those applicants who do submit TOEFL or IELTS scores will be given priority in the selection process. We do NOT accept copies of TOEFL and IELTS scores directly sent by applicants, the results of the TOEFL institutional exam, or any other exams conducted by private agencies.
2. Two letters of recommendation: One must be from a supervisor at your workplace, and the other must be from a faculty member of the university from which you obtained your bachelor’s degree. Letters of recommendation must be submitted in an envelope sealed by the reference.
3. Official academic transcript: Only an official transcript in a sealed envelope issued by your university or school will be accepted.
4. Statement of purpose (1,200 words or less): Be concise and specific in preparing your statement, giving information which will aid the selection committee in evaluating your potential for completing the program. Use the form provided with the application form, attaching an additional sheet if needed. Please type.

Telephone interviews may be conducted to assess English proficiency and/or to confirm any other information contained in the applicant’s file.

Lastly, although this is not required, if you have taken the GRE, please have the official score sent to the program. Those who present GRE scores will be considered favorably in the selection process.

Bhutto's Party to Hold Meeting

Thousands of mourners converged Sunday on the ancestral home of slain opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, shouting anti-government slogans ahead of a meeting to decide who should succeed her as party head and whether to boycott parliamentary elections.The meeting comes as critics accuse the government of failing to properly investigate the Thursday attack that killed Bhutto, plunging the nuclear-armed nation deeper into political crisis and triggering nationwide riots that have left at least 44 people dead. A pullout by the Pakistan People's Party could destroy the credibility of the Jan. 8 parliamentary elections, already being boycotted by Pakistan's other main opposition leader, Nawaz Sharif.

"Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for the sake of this country and for democracy," her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, told mourners after they had thrown flowers at the mausoleum where she was buried. "But her blood will not be in vain ... Bhutto will remain alive in the hearts of people."

Police struggled to control the crowds in Bhutto's hometown of Naudero, many of whom had walked miles to get there. They shouted "Musharraf is a killer!" and called for the separation of Bhutto's home province of Sindh from the rest of Pakistan. Controversy remained about whether she was killed by gunshots, a shrapnel wound or the concussive force of the blast. She was buried without an autopsy and the debate over her cause of death was undermining confidence in the government and further angering her followers. On Saturday, the government rejected suggestions it should enlist foreign help in investigating Bhutto's assassination. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday that an international probe into Bhutto's death was vital because there was "no reason to trust the Pakistani government." Others called for a U.N. investigation.

White House spokesman Tony Fratto said Pakistan had not officially requested U.S. help.
"It's a responsibility of the government of Pakistan to ensure that the investigation is thorough. If Pakistani authorities ask for assistance we would review the request," he said. A senior U.S. official, however, said Pakistan was already "discussing with other governments as to how best the investigation can be handled." With the United States, the discussions "are about what we can offer and what the Pakistanis want. Having some help to make sure international questions are answered is definitely an option," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because no agreement had yet come from the discussions.

There was no immediate confirmation from Pakistani officials.
British Foreign Secretary David Miliband offered his country's assistance. "Obviously it's very important that a full investigation does take place, and has the confidence of all concerned," he said. The government has blamed the attack on Baitullah Mehsud, head of the Tehrik-i-Taliban, a newly formed coalition of Islamic militants along the Afghan border believed to be linked to al-Qaida and committed to waging holy war against the government.
But a spokesman for Mehsud, Maulana Mohammed Umer, dismissed the allegations as "government propaganda."
Bhutto's aides said they, too, doubted Mehsud was involved and accused the government of a cover-up.
"The story that al-Qaida or Baitullah Mehsud did it appears to us to be a planted story, an incorrect story, because they want to divert the attention," said Farhatullah Babar, a spokesman for Bhutto's party.
Authorities initially said Bhutto died from bullet wounds. A surgeon who treated her later said the impact from shrapnel on her skull killed her. But Cheema said Friday that Bhutto was killed when the shockwaves from the bomb smashed her head into the sunroof as she tried to duck back inside the vehicle.

Bhutto's spokeswoman Sherry Rehman, who was in the vehicle that rushed her boss to the hospital, disputed that.
"She was bleeding profusely, as she had received a bullet wound in her neck. My car was full of blood. Three doctors at the hospital told us that she had received bullet wounds. I was among the people who gave her a final bath. We saw a bullet wound in the back of her neck," she said. "What the government is saying is actually dangerous and nonsensical. They are pouring salt on our wounds. There are no findings, they are just lying."
Cheema stood by the government's version of events, and said Bhutto's party was free to exhume her body for an autopsy.

The election commission has called an emergency meeting for Monday to decide how to proceed with the parliamentary elections. Riots have destroyed nine election offices - along with the voter rolls and ballot boxes inside, the election commission said. In the eastern city of Bahawalnagar, meanwhile, two suspected suicide bombers died early Sunday when they prematurely detonated their bomb near the residence of Ijazul Haq, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q party, police said.
